Cinequest 21
March 1-13, 2010 - San Jose, CA
CINEQUEST 21st ANNIVERSARY

Cinequest Film Festival - One of the top 10 film festivals in the world, alongside such events as Cannes, Sundance, and Toronto, celebrates its 21st birthday this year, and does so with gusto.

Cinequest has established itself as one of the premiere film festivals around, and is number one for emerging technology and digital film techniques - not surprising considering it is held in the heart of Silicon Valley. San Jose, CA can stand proud knowing that it offers such a boost to creativity and entertainment by offering a smorgasbord of film genres and styles, bringing over 80,000 film lovers to the area.

This year has a wide variety of films to choose from, and truly something for everyone - from documentaries to dramas to arts explorations to dark and edgy, with even the more mainstreamed zombie film (“The Dead”). Who doesn’t love a good scare?

To be fair, the 2010 Cinequest was a bit bland in comparison to the previous couple of years - with more “good” offerings rather than many outstanding features. This year, 2011, has a knockout list of films that are sure to be ingrained in your memory. For a list of what we personally are looking forward to, go to: Film Suggestions. Also, don't forget to check out our Cinequest 2011 Film Reviews and Photos from the event.

To begin the adventure is a film by the acclaimed and talented John Turturro, presenting his film “Passione” - a trip through time and the streets of Naples, Italy, showcasing the music of the region. The closing night event features “Soul Surfer,” the true story of surfer Bethany Hamilton and her ordeal of having lost an arm to a shark attack. This film features AnnaSophia Robb, who will appear at Cinequest along with the real-life Bethany. Both are inspirational and memorable examples of human spirit.

We look forward to seeing everyone at Cinequest Film Festival this year, and hope that you will all find your personal favorite films and talk about them with your family, friends, and strangers. The arts are an integral part of our souls. Spread the word, and be involved. Let Cinequest 21 be the guiding force in the South Bay.

And with that, off we go to traverse the Celluloid Universe.
