SUN. JULY 27

It’s the final day. The day of running madly through the exhibit hall, finding “that one thing” that you saw down “that one aisle” the other day, that you wanted to buy. And it’s time to say goodbye to all the old, and new friends that you’ve run into over the past three days. As this Con attracts people from literally around the world, it is interesting to note how many cool, long-distance friendships have been forged at the Con. Tiring as it may be, after three nonstop days of festivities, it;s that last bastion of energy waiting to get out (with the help of the onsite Starbucks coffee in many cases) as people race through the aisles and halls.

10 am brings us the San Diego International Children’s Film Festival in it’s 5th year, screening short films for children of all ages. It’s nice to think of the kids.

The rest of the day, we split up to shoot photos, chat with people, and pick up those last few items to buy, as we got ready for that evenings’ wind down.

Later that evening, I’m in the hotel office center when an irony occurs. Embassy Suites, where we were staying, is owned by the Hilton family of hotels. I was doing a search on Paris Hilton - the hotel heiress - to find some background, and photos. What I ended up finding is that users of the Embassy Suites’ computers are blocked from viewing anything to do with Paris Hilton - due to “Potentially harmful material not suitable for children.” That was hilarious. I brought it to the hotel manager’s attention, who found herself blocked from viewing anything Paris-related even on her own manager’s computer. Hilton was censoring Hilton. That, my friends is irony. Bad Paris. She’s allowed to cavort at Comic Con, but not allowed to be viewed on her own company’s computers - for being, well, “dirty.” That seemed to bring a final bit of humor to the end of the show that started with a crazed throng of people trying to get “be first,” to my joining the Paparazzi (if but for a moment), to our cavalcade of stars and entertainers, and people... all of those people! Forget about Soylent Green - Comic Con is PEOPLE!

Read on, my friends! Stay literate.
